Venema sets BHS record at Glenwood's Agar invite

GLENWOOD - Competition was close at the Jeff Agar Memorial track meet on Friday, but Bickleton pulled out some impressive results and finished strong.

The Bickleton boys claimed third place honors with 260 points, while the girls team's 262 points earned them second place honors at the event.

Goldendale's athletes finished first in both the boys (312) and girls (375) competition.

Three Bickleton athletes earned first place honors at the event, including Peter Clinton's 2:15.74 run in the 800m and Nic Venema's 11-06 pole vault.

Dylan Lowe, a new Bickleton athlete, also earned a first place finish in the high jump with his 5-08 leap.

Lowe also came in second in the 400m (57.07), while teammates Justin Harvey and Taylor Brown also earned second place honors at the event. Harvey earned his second place finish in the 200m, clocking a time of 24.61. Brown earned several second place honors, running 17.95 in the 110m hurdles and then 45.22 in the 300m hurdles.

Brown's third second place finish was shared with Clinton, Venema and Harvey for their 47.36 time in the 4x100 relay.

Third place finishers for Bickleton included Lowe in the 200m (25.12), Venema in the 110m (18.63) and Clinton in the pole vault (10-06).

Several Bickleton girls placed first at the Jeff Agar Memorial track meet. They were Jenna Mount in the 100m (14.20), Christina Wilson in the 3200m (13:38.6), Katelynn Clinton in the discus (96-09) and Jamie Venema in the pole vault (8).

The BHS girls 4x100 relay team also placed first at the event. Teammates Clinton, Fanny Schneider, Mount and Aymie Osborne finished the race in 55.43. This is the 4x100 girls team's best time of the year.

Adding a final first place finish to the Bickleton girls team were the 4x400 runners. Haley Goodnight, Sydnie O'Banion, Schneider and Wilson ran the race in 5:26.74.

Earning second place honors at the track meet were Venema in the 200m (28.29), Wilson in the 1600m (6:29.20), Osborne in the 300m hurdles (55.80) and Clinton in the high jump (4-06).

Venema's time in the 200m broke Bickleton High School's school record.

Earning third place honors in Glenwood were Mount in the 200m (30.66), Venema in the high jump (4-06), Schneider in the triple jump (26-10) and the 4x200 relay team. The team, made up of Clinton, Schneider, Mount and Osborne, ran the race in 2:02.04.

The Bickleton team heads to Sub-Districts this coming Friday, May 13, at Glenwood.
