BENTON CITY - The Lady Vikings softball team's overall record dipped to 2-11 after succumbing to Ki-Be last night in a one-game non-league match-up.
Mabton lost to the Bears 6-2 after scoring the first run of the game in the opening inning.
Ki-Be, in the first inning, scored three runs. The Bears kept the momentum going in their favor, scoring another two runs in the second inning.
Neither team was able to score in the third inning, but Ki-Be had a runner round the bases and tag home plate in the fourth inning.
The Bears held the 6-1 lead through the fifth inning and Mabton was only able to score one more run at the top of that frame.
Neither the Lady Vikings or Ki-Be were able to score any more runs.
"There was good pitching and defense by both teams," said Mabton Coach Jesus Sustaita.
The pitcher for Mabton was Jazzee Sustaita, who recorded two strikeouts and issued two walks.
"Ki-Be just outhit us nine to five," said Coach Sustaita, stating he felt the Lady Vikings played well through the entire game.
"(We) just came up short on the bats," he said.
Mabton's Jackie Cruz led the team with a double. That was the one time she connected with the ball during her three at-bats.
Mela Alcala of the Lady Vikings was walked once and had one base hit. Also taking bases one time each were Marlen Chavez, Judy Herrera and Baylie Tyus.
Mabton will Thursday travel to Connell for a league game. The Lady Vikings league record is 0-8.
