Tomorrow is May 14, nothing particularly notable about that date to most people.
But it's a day that's been special to me ever since May 14, 1988 - the day Joni and I first met.
It was at a Christian event for college students held at Camp Casey on Whidbey Island. It was after a church service on the last day of the weekend retreat when she walked up to me and introduced herself.
We then went for a walk along the beach and we've been walking together ever since.
Even now Whidbey Island is one of our favorite places to visit, not only for the beauty and diversity of things to do...but for the memories it has given us over nearly a quarter-of-a-century.
Every time we go to the island we always stop at Camp Casey and visit the nearby park. The camp is now owned by Seattle Pacific University but the site has changed little since we first met there.
We'll probably head back to Whidbey Island again sometime this summer.
Each time we go we always find new places to check out and new memories, such as a lavender farm or a genuine general store in Langley with great kitchen stuff.
Not sure what we'll find new this year, there's a rhododendron garden that's caught our eye so that's a possibility.
What's really important, though, is remembering the many blessings of our life together and I can't think of a better place than where it all began.
