Teen dies in drive-by shooting last Friday in Sunnyside

A drive-by shooting at the intersection of South 11th Street and Idabelle Avenue in Sunnyside left one teen dead and another wounded last Friday night.

The shooting occurred at approximately 10:53 p.m., when a red four-door sedan containing multiple suspects pulled up alongside the victim's vehicle at the intersection. Several shots were fired from the suspect's vehicle into the victim's.

The bullets struck 17-year-old Alfredo Arredondo and an unidentified 16-year-old occupant. Both victims were immediately transported to the local hospital before being transferred to a Yakima hospital.

Arredondo, who had been struck in the head, died several hours later from the injury.

The 16-year-old victim was struck in the hand.

The Sunnyside Police Department is working on confirming that a couple, though not necessarily all of the occupants in the victim's vehicle, are verified gang members.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on this case should call the Sunnyside Police Department at 509-836-6200.
