LIBERTY LAKE - The ending may not have been what high school senior Renae Visser scripted, nonetheless the Sunnyside golfer made it through day-two action at yesterday's WIAA 3A State Girls Golf Tournament.
Visser opened with a 92 on Tuesday at State, staged at the par-70 Liberty Lake municipal course, coming in one stroke below the cut line to earn one of the coveted spots in Wednesday's finals. She never quite got her game revved up yesterday, however, ballooning to a 102 with identical front and back nine scores of 51-51.
"Renae kind of got off to a rough start yesterday," said SHS Coach Gary Rohde. "She had a couple of double-bogeys to open her round.
"Then, with some putting problems where the ball just didn't want to drop, it kind of got worse from there."
In looking back at Visser's prep career on the links, Rohde said the standout athlete can relish the fact that she was a three-time State tourney qualifier.
"She's one of the best kids in the world. Truly, Renae is a joy to be around," he said.
"And, she's not done playing golf," he added. "She's agreed to play for the women's golf team at Dordt College back in Iowa.
"I have no doubt she'll do well there."
