Sage Rat Run getting bigger

I would like to thank all the participants, sponsors and volunteers for another successful event. This year's Sage Rat Run included a half marathon and 12k, with 342 participants combined, which was more than double than last year's event.

We coordinated with three cities and two counties to organize this fun run. The half marathon began in Sunnyside, traveled through Grandview and finished in Prosser. The 12k began in Grandview and ended at the same finish line in Prosser. Both routes utilized the Yakima Lower Valley Pathway. Monies were brought in through registration fees, raffle ticket sales and donations.

With these contributions, Sage Rat Run is able to donate this year $1,200 to Ronald McDonald House Charities, $700 for a flight scholarship to a Civil Air Patrol Cadet and $700 towards first responder trauma kits for local law enforcement through a partnership with Prosser Memorial Hospital Medical Center.

I feel honored to be leading such a cooperative and beneficial group. With everyone's dedication, perseverance and time, we have again assisted some very worthy causes.

It is our goal to continue this annual event and increase numbers of participants and donations each year to help promote a happy, healthy community.

Thank you again to everyone for your support.
