TACOMA - Eric Amaro and Miguel Guzman were the sole Grizzlies that made the trip to Tacoma this past Friday to compete in the 3A State track championships.
Both qualified for the 800g javelin throw.
The event was won by Kyle Kennedy of Bremerton with a throw of 186-4.
Amaro placed 12th at the event when he tossed his javelin 158-3. Guzman was 14th in the event with a distance of 147-11.
"They didn't throw their best, but they competed well," SHS Coach Darren Mezger said. "They just didn't have their best day when they needed it."
The good news, Mezger said, is that both are coming back next year. He feels their achievements will only get better.
"They got a lot of good experience out of this," he said.
Mezger noted that just Amaro and Guzman qualified for State this year, but he believes that number will be much higher next year.
