Mary Catherine Ross, 62, of Hermiston, Ore. passed away on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland..

She was born March 24, 1949 in Salem, Ore. to parents, Roy and Elsie Brown Ross.

Mary attended Sunnyside High School before moving to Sunnyvale, Calif., where she graduated high school with the class of 1967.

She moved to Hermiston in 1978, where she worked at the Hermiston Christian School as a reading teacher before joining the Hermiston Police Department, where she worked until 1997 when her health forced her to retire. Mary then spent countless hours writing words of encouragement to others.

She became an OSU Master Gardener in 2009, and became passionate about growing Dahlias and vegetables.

Mary was a member of New Hope Community Church in Hermiston.

She loved her dogs, building miniature doll houses and making stained glass artwork.

She is survived by her mother, Elsie Jean Parson of Kingman, Ariz.; and siblings, Leroy Ross, Clint Farnworth and Susan Farnworth Berstch, all of Sunnyside, Diane Farnworth Marquez and Susan Ross Martinez, both of Yakima, Leslie Robertson Hofelich of Monte Rio, Calif., Eweulle Robertson of Peach Springs, Ariz., Michael Ross of Portland, Ore., Kathryn Ross Tate of Kennewick and Karen Ross Jordan, Gresham, Ore.

Mary was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Roy Lee Ross Jr..

A graveside service will be held Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery in Hermiston.
