GOLDENDALE - The Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights took on Trout Lake/Glenwood last night (Thursday) in their first District tournament playoff match, and won in a sweep of the three games.
The first game was a hard-fought battle between the teams, with the Lady Knights eventually prevailing 27-25. By the second game the Sunnyside Christian team had control and won 25-20. The last game was all Lady Knights and they won handily 25-10.
"We played very well as a team tonight," said Sunnyside Christian Coach Stephanie Dalrymple after the match. "We struggled with getting into control of game one but I was happy with how the girls fought and won the game."
Alexandra Newhouse was a team leader, going 20-for-21 in serves while delivering 11 perfect passes to her teammates.
Alyssa Haak went 18-for-19 serving and provided 12 assists. Danika DeGroot also set up the ball for 12 assists while spiking the ball five times for kills.
Stormee Van Belle and Maddy Wavrin each had seven kills, and Wavrin also supplied 10 perfect passes. Brittany Broersma sent five spikes over the net for kills.
"We played well all around tonight," said Dalrymple. "We know we have to play tough to win matches and that is what we did."
The Lady Knights (13-2) will play in the second round at Districts this coming Saturday at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of last night's Bickleton/Klickitat match.
The winner of that match will advance to the championship match. The District champions will proceed to the State tourney in Yakima Nov. 10-12.
