Servicemen, veterans offered fee-free classes on safe driving

The American Association of Retired Persons is offering driver safety classes in Sunnyside on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 7-8. The classes are geared for those 55 years of age and over.

With Veterans Day rapidly approaching, the AARP is honoring those currently serving in the military, as well as military veterans and their sponsors by offering the classes free-of-charge.

The classes are open to everyone else at a cost of $14 per person, $12 for AARP members. Those who complete the eight-hour course typically are eligible for discounts on their automobile insurance.

During the two-day class, students review safety issues, talk about others who use the roadways, changes that occur as a person ages and how to compensate for those changes.

The goal of the AARP driver safety program is to keep seniors driving safely for as long as possible and to save lives.

The class is informational and discussion only...there are no tests.

The Nov. 7-8 classes in Sunnyside will be held at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church (717 S. 16th St.), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Sign-up information is available by calling 837-2690.
