Sunnyside man pleads guilty in shooting death

YAKIMA - A Sunnyside man charged in a shooting death in January 2009, plead guilty in Yakima County Superior Court this past Friday.

Oscar Torres, 25, was charged with accomplice to second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree assault when officers said he opened fire outside of the AM/PM market in Sunnyside on Jan. 3, 2009.

Jesus Tlaseca Sosa, 22, of Sunnyside was killed, a Grant County juvenile was injured and Manuel Farias of Grandview, 20, was also injured as a result of the gunfire.

Torres was apprehended in Granger a few days after the shooting

The incident was gang-related, police said.

Torres, who according to Yakima County court records originally pleaded not guilty, filed a guilty plea in Superior Court last Friday, according to the Yakima County clerk's office.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 14, according to court records.
