Sunnyside motorist airlifted to Seattle following accident

GRANDVIEW - A 33-year-old Sunnyside man sustained serious enough injuries last night in a one-vehicle rollover accident that emergency medical personnel deemed it necessary to airlift him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Washington State Patrol officials report that Arturo Cortes Jr., 33, of Sunnyside was driving a 2004 Chrysler Sebring westbound on I-82 at about 7 p.m. Sunday evening. WSP troopers say at about milepost 73, two miles west of Grandview, Cortes' two-door sedan veered of the left side of the freeway, continuing on in the median. The car rolled, ejecting Cortes from the vehicle.

WSP officials note that Cortes was not wearing a safety restraint.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. There has been no formal charges filed against Cortes as of yet.
