Matheny, Garcia named to CWAC all-league soccer team

Two Grandview High School athletes have been named to the CWAC Girls Soccer All-League team for the fall 2011 season.

Earning first-team honors as a midfielder was Grandview junior Oryian Matheny. Lady Greyhound teammate Yesenia Garcia, a senior, was afforded honorable mention honors as a defender.

Of the 14 prep stars named first-team selections, seven of them hail from East Valley. The Red Devil first-team standouts include defenders Tassia Merkle, Tracy Martin and Kellie Ross; midfielders Yasi Mohsenian and Ashlee Betancourth; and forwards Shallise Rodriguez and Samantha Herzog.

Prosser had two girls named a first-team all-league selection. They were defender Karley Crawford and forward Helen Peterson.

East Valley's Mohsenian and Merkle were named the CWAC's offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively.
