Visiting Pirates forced ;to walk the plank

The Lady Grizzlies squared their prep bowling league record at 3-3 on the season against Davis High School this past Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Sunnyside won the match 4-0, by hosting Davis at Valley Lanes in Sunnyside.

Sunnyside's top performer in the opening game rolled a 171, that notched by Amanda Villarreal.

The Lady Grizzlies swept the two-game total pinfall series by scores of 700-692 and 740-587.

On efforts to win the match, three Lady Grizzlies had turkeys, Amanda Villarreal with an overall performance of 313, Johanna Chumley with 343 and Rosa Garza with 320. Turkeys are earned when a bowler scores three consecutive strikes.

In the losing cause, Davis' Gissel Osuna and Erica Gamboa turned in the strongest efforts. Gamboa bowled games of 169-106 (275) and Garcia topped her with a two-game series of 279 on efforts of 158-121.

Sunnyside's Yaya Gonzales and Adriana Lopez finished via series scores of 255 and 238, respectively.

Sunnyside completed the sweep by winning the final two Baker games, 160-132 and 160-137. In Baker bowling, each member of the five-girl squad alternates taking turns throughout the 10-frame contest.

In JV action this past Tuesday, Sunnyside lost 3-1.

The Sunnyside High School girls bowling team will next compete against Moses Lake tomorrow (Thursday), at Valley Lanes in Sunnyside.
