City to host fall clean-up day

Not sure where to take your old mattresses, furniture, car tires, appliances or even your yard waste?

Give your spring cleaning efforts another glance this year for the fall clean-up day in Sunnyside.

The city of Sunnyside, in cooperation with Yakima Waste Systems, Inc., is sponsoring a fall clean-up day in Sunnyside, Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fifth Street near the Sunnyside pool, where dumpsters will be set up.

Yakima Waste Systems, Inc. is providing this program to Sunnyside residents free of charge. The program gives Sunnyside residents a chance to get rid of items that do not conform to conventional collection routes.

Most items are accepted and are free to dispose of during the fall clean-up day this Saturday. However, vehicle batteries, automotive parts, hazardous wastes such as chemicals, oils, solvents, paints, insecticides and the like will not be accepted. Car tires and appliances will be accepted for a fee of $1 per car tire and $5 per appliance. Tires will be accepted if they are on or off a wheel.

New to the program this year by appointment only, seniors and disabled persons residing in the city of Sunnyside can have their bagged trash picked up at home. Residents must be 62 years or older or disabled to qualify for home pick-up.

The free collection station is free to city of Sunnyside residents only. To schedule an appointment for pick-up or for more information call Pam Sandifer at (509) 837-7999.
