Fall weather seems to be in store for Sunnyside during the month of October, with temperatures expected to be cooler than normal and higher than normal precipitation.
That's according to the National Weather Service in a weather forecast released yesterday, Monday.
Normal highs for Sunnyside in October range from 71.5 degrees at the start of the month to 63.7 degrees at the end of October. Normal lows range from 39.9 degrees to 35.6 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation for October is 0.53 inches.
The prediction of cooler-than-normal weather is an extension of a trend the Sunnyside area experienced in September, which was also colder than usual.
The average temperature last month was 63.1 degrees, which was 0.4 degrees below normal.
High temperatures in September averaged 80.7 degrees, which was 0.9 degrees above normal. The warmest day in the Sunnyside area last month was 93 degrees on Sept. 13.
Low temperatures last month averaged 45.5 degrees, which was 1.7 degrees below normal. The lowest was 37 degrees, on Sept. 29.
Precipitation in Sunnyside last month totaled 0.07 inches, which was 0.42 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation - at least .01 inch - was received on four days with the heaviest, 0.03 inches, reported on Sept. 18.
Precipitation this year for the Sunnyside area has reached 4.37 inches, which is 0.08 inches above normal.
Since October 2010, the water-year precipitation at Sunnyside has been 8.38 inches, which is 1.70 inches above normal.
