MABTON - The Lady Pirates fought their way to victory in a five-game dog fight against Mabton's JV team last night.
The first game showed hopes of a promising win for the Lady Pirates varsity via a score of 25-16.
The JV Lady Vikings responded, winning the second game 26-24. With a tied match the Lady Pirates rose to the occasion in the third game, taking the lead by a score of 25-13.
Mabton didn't take the outcome lightly and fought to earn the fourth game, 25-19.
Tied for the second time, both teams hoped to pull out the win. In the end Bickleton Coach Joelle Patterson said the Lady Pirates worked hard to notch a match deciding 15-9 decision.
"The girls played really good last night," Patterson added.
Providing the most assists for Bickleton throughout the match was sophomore Haley Goodnight with nine. The Lady Pirate was also 6-for-8 at the service line. Sophomore Amanda McBride provided seven assists and was 11-for-14 at the service line.
Also contributing to Bickleton's victory were sophomore Syndie Obanion with one kill and who was 23-for-24 at the service line; and Jamie Venema with 10 kills and six blocks. This sophomore also was 14-for-14 at the service line. Senior Aymie Osborne had 11 kills and was 19-for-26 at the service line. Freshman Lindsay Brown had 11 kills.
Last night's non-league win takes the Lady Pirates' overall record on the season to 3-4. The Lady Pirates will host a league match-up against Trout Lake-Glenwood next Tuesday, Oct. 11.
