Christian girls outfight Lady Pirates

BICKLETON - The Lady Knights returned to their winning ways by sweeping the Bickleton Pirates last night in three games.

Sunnyside Christian controlled the games, winning 25-13, 25-20, 25-20.

"We played very well as a team tonight," said Lady Knights coach Stephanie Dalrymple. "We were focused on playing smart, aggressive volleyball and that's what we did."

Alexandra Newhouse led the Lady Knights going 16 for 17 in serving with 10 perfect passes. Danika DeGroot also served well, going 11 for 13, and put the ball into position to assist her teammates with kills eight times. Grace den Hoed contributed nine perfect passes.

Alyssa Haak went 10 for 11 in serving and delivered five unreturnable spikes while setting up 12 assists. The spikes kept coming as Stormee Van Belle delivered nine kills and Brittany Broersma racked up five herself. Maddy Wavrin also managed six kills and also went 12 for 14 serving.

Coach Joelle Patterson of the Bickleton Lady Pirates didn't provide stats for her players. "(The) girls just couldn't really pull it together," she said after the match, "We haven't passed that bad since the beginning of the season."

"Sunnyside Christian played very well," she said.

Sunnyside Christian (4-1, 9-1) next plays Lyle at home next Tuesday, Oct 18.

Bickleton (3-3, 4-5) next plays Klickitat at home, also on Tuesday, Oct 18.
