Grandview clinches home playoff match

GRANDVIEW - In what may have been a CWAC South playoff preview, the Grandview Lady Greyhound volleyball team held on for a 3-1 victory over Toppenish last night.

Grandview gained control from the outset Tuesday night, defeating the visiting Wildcats 25-20, 25-17 in the first two games.

The Lady Greyhounds were on the verge of winning in a sweep, but with game three tied at 20-20, Toppenish went on a 5-1 rally to prevail 25-21.

That set the stage for a game four finale.

"We adjusted internally," Coach John La Fever said of Grandview's response to the game three loss.

The Lady Greyhounds then proceeded to wrap up the match with a convincing 25-12 victory in game four.

Mikaela Espinoza helped clinch the victory with three consecutive aces in game four. "That was a big run that really helped out," La Fever said.

Espinoza also recorded 14 kills and four digs to go with five aces for the four-game match.

Taylor Hall pounded a team-high 20 kills for Grandview to go with five service points, while teammate Payton Parrish dished out 33 assists to go with five kills and five digs.

In just her second varsity start for the Lady Greyhounds, freshman Samantha Grove provided support at the net with five kills and five blocks.

Last night's victory clinched third place in the CWAC South standings for Grandview (6-2, 10-3), which wraps up the regular season at Wapato next Tuesday.

Last night's victory clinched third-place in the CWAC South for Grandview, which in the process earned a loser-out home playoff match next Thursday.

"Right now it looks like it's probably going to be us and Toppenish," La Fever said of next Thursday's must-win tilt.
