Six people, including three children and a teenager, were injured in a four-car accident on SR-241 (Sunnyside-Mabton Highway) near Stover Road this past Saturday at approximately 1:20 p.m.
An Acura Integra driven by a 16-year-old, was traveling southbound on SR-241 when it struck a Ford Bronco and swerved into the oncoming lane. The Acura was hit by two more vehicles, an Isuzu truck and a Nissan.
Washington State Patrol officials said the driver of the Acura, identified as David E. Salinas, 16, of Mabton and three passengers were injured. The passengers were identified as 4-year-old Jonah Salinas, 5-year-old Silveradio Diaz and 8-year-old Thomas Diaz, all of Mabton.
Salinas, the driver, was wearing a seatbelt but the children were not.
Salinas was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital, the younger two children were taken to Prosser Memorial Hospital and the 8-year-old was taken to Kennewick General Hospital.
The driver of the Ford, identified as Marcia McDaniel, 53, of Sunnyside and a passenger in her car, identified as William McDaniel, 61, of Sunnyside were also injured and were taken to Prosser Memorial Hospital. Both were wearing seatbelts.
The Acura and Ford were totaled. The Nissan was towed from the scene of the accident. The Isuzu was driven from the scene.
The Washington State Patrol said the accident was caused by excessive speed.
