GRANDVIEW - The Bickleton varsity volleyball team defeated Grandview's JV last night, 2-1.
In a three-game match the Pirates won the first game by a score of 25-19. In the second game Grandview won 25-19. In the third and deciding game Bickleton prevailed, 28-26.
"The girls improved a lot," Coach Joelle Patterson said. Her squad lost its season opener by a 3-1 score to Ki-Be last week.
Providing the most assists throughout the match was sophomore Haley Goodnight with 16. The Lady Pirate was also 11-for-12 at the service line. Sophomore Jamie Venema was 16-for-16 from the service line and provided seven kills. Senior Aymie Osborne had six kills and was 7-for-9 at the service line. Freshman Lindsay Brown also had six kills and was 8-for-11 at the service line.
Patterson said the team has been working on passing and setting the ball during practice; and by the looks of it, practice is paying off.
"Once we could get our hitting going, it was awesome," she added.
The next Bickleton volleyball match is slated for Thursday, Sept. 15, at home against Lyle.
