PASCO - The final tally might reflect a 3-0 loss for the Lady Grizzly volleyball team last night, but it doesn't show just how close the Sunnyside team came to getting its first win of the season.
Tuesday night's match at Pasco saw Sunnyside lose the first two games 25-23, 25-22, respectively.
"We played with them all the way, neither team had more than a five-point lead," said Coach Sandy Jaquish. "We were just battling and playing some pretty good volleyball. It was pretty good except for the score."
He said it ultimately came down to a few untimely errors.
"We just couldn't close out the first or second games," he said. Jaquish noted the difference proved to be "a couple of lucky breaks for them...a couple of mistakes by us."
The disappointment in not being able to pull out either game was a heartbreak that proved too much in game three, as Sunnyside fell 25-12.
"It was tough losing those two close games against a team we knew we would be competitive against," Jaquish said. "We just have to keep moving forward."
Individual statistics from the match were not available, though Jaquish praised the play of Amber Cornwell. "She played a pretty solid match," he said.
Sunnyside (0-5) is home tomorrow, Thursday, to take on rival West Valley.
