Royal strikes early and often

MABTON - Scoring a quick nine points even before their offense took the field, the Royal Knights stormed into Mabton last Friday night and rode off with a convincing 51-0 win.

Mabton (0-3, 0-4) started the night with the ball first, but unable to get anything going on offense they lined up to punt the ball away. The snap from center sailed over the punter's head and through the end zone to give the Knights a two-point safety. On the ensuing kick the Royal return man sliced through the Viking special team players for a touchdown to give the visiting Knights a 9-0 lead.

From there it was more of the same as the Knights used big play after big play to put the ball in the end zone and cruise to the win.

"I'm proud of the way the team plays through the whistle and never gives up," said Head Coach Trevor Curtis, but he also stated "this is one of the worst games we have played this year."

Mabton was never able to get its offense moving as both their rushing and passing game were held in check.

Carlos Gastelum led the Vikings with 90-yards rushing and caught two passes out of the backfield for positive yards.

Things won't get much easier as they travel to Riverview to take on the pass happy Panthers this Friday.

"We will have to work on our pass defense this week in practice" stated Curtis.
