Unsafe areas targeted for bus routes

MABTON - In action last night, Monday, the Mabton School Board designated three areas as unsafe walking areas.

The action calls for busses to serve elementary school students on Fern Street, which is near Hwy. 22 and railroad traffic; students located near Hwy. 241 south of the Mabton bridge to the city limits, where there is heavy car and truck traffic and no sidewalk; and students from Vance Road to Monroe Street, where there is heavy traffic from dairy trucks.

All three areas are within a mile of district schools, and would be ineligible for funding for bus routes without the unsafe area designation.
