Port officials shouldn't bail out bank on former Carnation site

The mission of the Sunnyside Port District is to develop, broaden and strengthen an economic base throughout the district in an environmentally and prudent manner.

The meaning of PRUDENT is wise, careful and sensible! Seems that Port Commissioners Jeff Matson, Arnold Martin and Jim Grubenhoff have lost focus of their own mission.

It seems whereas this Port wants to take over the old Carnation site and the city airport falls out of their mission statement. The Port commissioners keep saying they are applying for free grants. NEWS ALERT...there are no free monies. It comes from all of the taxpayers' pockets.

Are the Port commissioners in a BAILOUT mode such as Obama is? Should we taxpayers be bailing out US Bank, which owns the Carnation site? Do they not realize that if there are no bailout monies with the stressed economic times we are seeing; that the cost of the chemical contaminated sites will fall on the shoulders of the local taxpayers?

We do not need to pay for elected officials' blunders. And there have been many in this community!

Remember, the dollars are not germinating like they used to because of this economic climate we now find ourselves in. And as a banker told me, we cannot wait 14 months to solve this monetary crisis.

Definitely, Matson, Martin and Grubenhoff do not understand the meaning of prudent. No bailouts of US Bank.
