MABTON - The Mabton Vikings came away victorious in a home soccer game against the Connell Eagles last Saturday morning.
"It was raining, early in the morning," said Mabton Coach Junior Garcia. "Everybody was slipping and sliding."
Mabton scored early, taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of the match on a shot by Daniel Cambron. The team continued to score, with Guillermo Macedo adding a second goal and Edgar Cisneros putting in a third.
But Connell fought back hard, and broke Mabton's three-game shutout streak when Connell's Arturo Reyes got one past the Viking goalie.
"I was a little upset they scored on us," said Garcia. "We had three games without being scored on, but it was a messy game and eventually those goals happen."
Mabton's Macedo added a final score to the tally, and the Vikings took the league game 4-1.
"My players had a pretty good game," said Garcia. "They are performing really well."
Mabton (5-1, 6-2) next travels to Wahluke on Tuesday, April 10.
