Sunnyside man found dead with gunshot wound

The body of a 40-year-old Sunnyside man reported missing last Sunday was found yesterday afternoon (Monday) near Granger, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Jose Manuel Correa was reported missing by his family after they learned his pickup truck had been found burning Saturday night in the same area his body was found. Correa has no known gang affiliations but has associates who may be gang members, according to Det. Sgt. Robert Udell of the Yakima County Sheriff's office.

Detectives are pursuing a variety of leads in the case. Anyone with information on the disappearance and murder of Correa is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 509-574-2500 or Yakima County Crime Stoppers at 509-248-9980 or 1-800-248-9980.

Deputies are also investigating a report made yesterday of a burglary in the 1200 block of South Emerald Road in which a door was kicked in and unspecified items taken.

Yesterday deputies also responded to an automatic alarm, 9-1-1 hang-up call, a report of assault, a theft report, a report of suspicious activity and a report of shots fired.
