'Quiet riot' not needed

John Fannin completely missed the mark in his personal column this past Friday. In his attempt to play the role of a wise sage trying to bring peace between battling city council members and an impetuous gallery, Fannin instead poured fuel on the fire by suggesting that a recall campaign be waged against Jason Raines based solely on the unsubstantiated allegations of a councilwoman whose own malicious, manipulative meddling has been one of the primary sources of the drama emanating from City Hall for the past several years.

Instead of inciting your readers with sensationalism, perhaps the community would be better served by re-establishing our collective focus on the four issues which have consistently won elections in this town: improving public safety, increasing economic development, enhancing the city's appearance and doing all of these in a fiscally conservative fashion.

Certainly the Council would benefit from focusing on these issues rather tearing into each other, however, the unfortunate events of the past few months point to problems far deeper than individual council members.

This community depends on the Daily Sun News for most of its news; start taking your responsibility seriously and begin producing objective journalism focused on these issues rather than the selective hit pieces that have recently run.

You jeering audience members need to look past your irrational hatred of certain councilmen, especially the ones bringing ideas to the table. Stop hiding behind your little screen names and start spending your time making this town a better place rather than spewing your venomous comments.

We don't need a 'quiet riot', as suggested by Fannin, we just need to work together on our shared goals. If you can't manage that, than at least stop trying to undermine the people who are.
