Coroner says blunt force to head killed local man

An autopsy conducted yesterday (Wednesday) on the body of homicide victim Jose Manuel Correa determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head. Initial impressions that the victim died of a gunshot wound proved to be incorrect.

Correa was found dead this past Monday afternoon near Granger. He was reported missing Sunday after relatives learned his pickup truck had been found burning in the same area.

The Yakima County Sheriff's office continues to investigate Correa's death. Anyone with information on the disappearance and murder of Correa is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 509-574-2500 or Yakima County Crime Stoppers at 509-248-9980 or 1-800-248-9980.

Yesterday, deputies responded to a report of a burglary near Outlook, two automatic alarms, a report of debris in the roadway near Mabton, a report of threats and a report of a domestic incident.
