Two dead, three injured in Easter day rollover mishap

MABTON - A one-vehicle rollover accident Easter afternoon, about a mile south of Mabton, has left two men dead and three others seriously injured.

Based on the investigation, WSP troopers are trying to determine if alcohol or drugs played a part in yesterday's fatalities. The Washington State Patrol is also unsure as to who the driver of the 2005 Jeep was, and officials said it is also unknown if any of the five occupants of the vehicle were wearing safety restraints.

Both of the men who perished died at the scene of the accident, on Glade Road about a mile south of Mabton. The deceased are 24-year-old Maximo Ocampo, whose hometown is unknown, and Luis A. Marcial-Santana, 23, of Seatac.

Of the three men who sustained injuries but survived, the one who may be in the worse condition is Israel Evangelista Mena, 20, of Roosevelt. He was airlifted to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center.

The two other men who were injured were Basilio Flores Soriano, 24, of Grandview and 26-year-old Adrian Mena Santana of Des Moines. Both were transported to Yakima Memorial Hospital.

WSP troopers say the 2005 Jeep was southbound on Glade Road yesterday afternoon, at about 4:15 p.m., when it veered off the roadway to the left. The driver over-corrected to the right, cause the vehicle to roll, which ejected two of the occupants.

The WSP said charges are pending.
