Hiway Fruit in Sunnyside will again work with Yakima County's drug addiction recovery program.
That's according to action taken this past Tuesday by Yakima County commissioners.
Teresa Davis is the program manager for the county's Access to Recovery program, funded through a federal grant. She says the contract re-inked with Hiway Fruit will provide gas vouchers to the program's clients to be used at the Sunnyside gas station.
Hiway Fruit in turn submits the vouchers to Yakima County for payment.
Davis says addict recovery clients use the gas vouchers, up to $35 each week, for transportation in finding employment, to a treatment provider or to meetings.
She says the vouchers are available to those clients with a vehicle in their name that is in working condition, a driver's license and insurance. Davis says there are also income requirements.
"The goal is to eliminate some of the barriers for these folks," says Davis. "One of the big barriers in the Lower Valley is transportation."
