Rally to raise awareness for victims of violent crime

Sunnyside's Centennial Square will be the site this coming Thursday, April 26, for a rally on behalf of crime victims.

The meeting will take place at noon, and speakers will include Yakima County Sheriff Ken Irwin and the Sunnyside Police Department's gang unit.

The rally is being held by Comprehensive (formerly Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health) in recognition of National Crime Victims Week. A meeting is also planned for Yakima's Millennium Plaza tomorrow, Tuesday, at noon.

Attendees at the rallies will promote victims' rights, share resources available to crime victims and honor victims who are deceased.

Activities include speakers, creation of a survivor's banner with handprints of family and friends and a balloon release. The event is for the community and crime victims. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions, hear from experts and listen to survivors.
