Document, drug disposal event set for Saturday

Local residents are welcome to drop off old documents and medications for safe and secure disposal this coming Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at American West Bank in Sunnyside.

Outdated documents such as financial statements, old checks and credit offers can be brought for shredding during the identity theft awareness event to be held at the bank at 1010 Yakima Valley Highway.

Material per person is limited to two banker boxes or three shopping bags of personal items.

The event is organized by Crime Stoppers Yakima County, with help from Sunnyside Police explorers who distributed flyers about the document disposal day to businesses around town.

In addition to outdated documents, the public is also invited to bring unused, expired prescription medications to the bank for safe disposal.

There is no cost for the disposal service - conducted with the support of C.I. Shred, American West Bank, the Drug Enforcement Agency and Sunnyside police - but Yakima County Crime Stoppers will accept donations to their reward fund.
