MATTAWA - At the latest stop on the 2012 Mid-Columbia Senior Golf Tour, staged at Desert Aire Golf Course, Akira Nozaka and Terry Ostrander led Sunnyside's Black Rock Creek team to a runner-up finish.
The host Desert Aire squad won the competition with a team low score of 707. Black Rock Creek was second with an aggregate total of 725 strokes, with Columbia Point finishing third with a score of 742.
A total of 116 senior linksters representing 10 teams were at the Desert Aire course.
Nozaka fired the second low round from among the field, carding a 3-over-par 75.
Ostrander claimed low net of field honors. A 16-handicapper, he shot a 6-over-par 78 for a net score of 62.
Also contributing mightily to Black Rock Creek's efforts were Doug Veach and Tom Diener with rounds of 80 and 81, respectively.
In addition to Ostrander scoring below his established handicap, Black Rock Creek's Norm Larson, Randy Boast and Mike Stegeman shot handicap-aided net rounds of 68, 70 and 71, respectively.
Black Rock Creek, seeking a sixth consecutive senior golf tour title, currently sits atop the 2012 points standings.
The next stop on the senior golf tour is at Moses Pointe near Moses Lake, this coming Wednesday, Aug. 8.
