I am looking at the Yakima Valley Business Times, Vol. XV, Issue 14 and I'm astounded!
Why? Because on page 15 there is the 2011 Sunnyside pay table chart. This chart gives the top 30 paid persons working for the city of Sunnyside. It amazes me that 22 of those 30 are on the Sunnyside police force.
And, the top wage earner is not the city manager, but a police sergeant!
How does this happen? Is no one in the police department keeping an eye on wages? That's the first thing you do to maintain "your" budget.
But, does the PD have a budget and is it within budget guidelines? Doesn't sound like it. How can the PD be within guidelines with the amounts being paid to these people?
Who is watching the payroll, or are these officers just able to work any amount of hours they want and can? Seems like whoever is in charge, is NOT!
I've heard how much overtime is paid out by the PD, and any other "business" would not survive. Why, if he is doing such a "great" job is the current person in charge of the PD not watching the payroll? I am sure none of these officers make this kind of money as a base pay. If they do, why wouldn't everyone want to be a police officer?
Come on citizens, let's hold the PD and all the departments of the city of Sunnyside accountable. It's a lot of our hard earned money they're spending.
I do applaud our interim city manager for trying to make all departments accountable, but please Mr. city manager, keep on top of it.
