Chrystopher J. Edwards, 63, of Butte, N.D. died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, after his battle with cancer, at a hospital in Minot, N.D.
Chrystopher John Edwards was born Feb. 16, 1949 in Cogan, Penarth, Wales, UK, the son of Raymond Pavey and Catherine Edwards.
He was raised in Cogan and educated as a certified diesel mechanic for the British Railroad.
In 1972 Chrys moved to America.
On Aug. 30, 1975 he was united in marriage to Nellie Kranz in Sunnyside. They made their home in Sunnyside, where being a jack of all trades he ran several businesses. In 1996 he moved his wife and eight children to North Dakota, settling first in Esmond and finally in Butte, where they continued to raised their family.
Chrys was a member of St Cecilia's Catholic Church in Velva, N.D. and the Knights of Columbus of Drake/Anamoose.
Chrys enjoyed being with his eight children and 18 grandchildren.
He loved the outdoors, especially camping.
An important lesson he taught to all of his children was "Any job worth doing, is worth doing right."
Chrys enjoyed a good cup of coffee and great conversation.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nellie of Butte; children, Elizabeth "Buffy" (Ryan) Soens of Bryans Road, Md., Teressa (Jeremy) Lakoduk of Butte, John (Rebecca) Edwards of Velva, Chrystopher (Bridget) Edwards, Andrew Edwards, Michael (Heather) Edwards and Edward Ian Edwards, all of Minot, N.D. and Katie (Derrick) Hysjulien of Powers Lake, N.D.; 18 grandchildren; and one brother, Ernest "Roy" Edwards of Llandough, Penarth, Wales, UK.
Chrys was preceded in death by his daughter, Chrystine; and his mother, Catherine.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. followed with a vigil prayer service at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva, N.D. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Velva, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Velva.
Thompson Larson Funeral Home in Minot, N.D. is in charge of arrangements.
