Sunnyside High School gears up for opening day

Freshmen at Sunnyside High School will receive their schedules at orientation, but all other students will get their schedules sooner.

The change is designed to provide better service for students who need to make adjustments in their schedules or need to talk with a counselor before school starts.

For students in grades 10 through 12, preliminary schedules will be sent out this coming Thursday, Aug. 23.

If the schedule is fine, students will need to fill out medical and registration forms and show up on the first day of school, Sept. 4, to receive their final schedules.

If there is a problem with the preliminary schedule, students should go to the school to resolve the conflict.

All freshmen are invited to attend Grizzly Academy at the high school starting Monday, Aug. 27. Academy sessions will continue through Thursday, Aug. 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. each day. The incoming students will meet at the two-story building where they will receive an enthusiastic greeting, according to leadership advisor Joshua Eidson.

Freshman orientation is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 31, from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Freshmen will receive their preliminary schedules at orientation.

Construction on pace

New principal Ryan Maxwell said the construction is on time.

"We'll be fully operational on the first day of school," he promised.

The high school will be holding an open house on Tuesday, Sept. 18, to thank the city for the new school. Everyone is invited to visit the building during the event.
