Vandora Patton, 88, of Grandview, our beloved mother departed this earth on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, surrounded by her family and friends.

Vandora was born Sept. 27, 1923 in Benson, La. to Sampson and Lula Flanigan.

The family moved to Grandview in 1966.

She was a daycare provider and volunteered as a senior companion until her health failed.

She enjoyed playing bingo, sewing and watching westerns. But Bingo was her number one hobby. The family would get together and play on holidays, but if she could not find anyone to play with her, she would often play by herself.

She married A.D. Patton Sr. in 1940. They were married until his death in 1995. They had lived in Grandview for 46 years.

She accepted the Lord at an early age with the Church of God in Christ.

She leaves to cherish her memories of six daughters, Laura Bolden, Ora Patton of Pasco, Bobbie Combs and Linda Patton of Springfield, Mass., Ida Johnson of Grandview, and Samantha Durrett of Renton; three sons, Alonzo (Betty) Patton of Grandview, Sampson (Leonia) Patton of Hillsboro, Ore. and Huey Patton of Benson, La.; 41 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Patton of Mansfield, La. and Dell George of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, AD Patton Sr.; her parents, Sampson and Lulu Flanigan; one son, AD Patton Jr.; and one sister, Mercy D. Patton.

She will be sorely missed.

Viewing will be held Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview. Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview, with burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery.
