Military honors will be provided for men and women who, in times of war and peace, have dedicated their lives to the defense of the U.S.
A special ceremony ensuring those who have died receive full military honors will be held on Monday, Dec. 10, at the Sunnyside VFW hall at 2 p.m.
The public is urged to attend this special ceremony to pay tribute to Lower Valley veterans.
In 2000 Congress made such a tribute a statutory benefit for all men and women who have served in the armed forces.
The purpose of the ceremony is to ensure those who did not receive full military honors at the time of their death are honored via a formal demonstration of gratitude.
The service entails the ringing of a bell and a 21-gun salute. The names of local veterans will be read.
The service will be held with support from the Lower Valley honor guard, VFW posts #3207 and 3482, and the Washington National Guard.
