OTHELLO - The Sunnyside High School Lady Grizzly grapplers came away with two individual titlists at last Saturday's Othello invite.
Lady Grizzly Kayla Gonzalez (112 lbs.) continued her undefeated season, now with a 12-0 record, with a victory over a Mabton wrestler in the championship round. Gonzalez pinned her opponent in the second round.
Making her debut performance this year was Sunnyside's Abigail Elizondo, who notched first place honors in the 130-lb. division. Elizondo pinned her Quincy High School opponent in the second round, earning herself a first-place medal.
Also making a first-time appearance on the mat was Lady Grizzly Victoria Schenck. Sunnyside Coach Terry Shines says Schenck's performance was tough and competitive, and for a first-time wrestler, she did her team proud by earning second place honors on the day in the 170-lb. division.
Also of note was Lady Grizzly Amanda Bazan, who notched third place honors in her 155-lb. division.
Shines says many of the Lady Grizzly grapplers are injured and he's hoping this coming Thursday's Hanford JV invitational will allow more Lady Grizzly wrestlers to return to the mat.
