Benard O. Pedersen, 89, of Sunnyside passed away on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, surrounded by his loving children.

Benard was born Dec. 6, 1923 in Bend, Ore. to Peder and Dorothy (Johnson) Pedersen. He received his early education in Bend, graduating with the class of 1941.

On Aug. 3, 1951 he married Dorothy Bronkhorst in Sunnyside.

Benard was a dairyman for more than 40 years and was named Yakima Dairyman of the Year in 1963.

He enjoyed gardening, spending time at the coffee shop with friends, Bud and Helen, Tony and Juanita, and Jim and Pyt. He also enjoyed the time spent with his long-time neighbors, Earl and Lorraine Padelford.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Sunnyside.

Benard is survived by his children, Dennis (Marian) Pedersen of Kennewick, Phyllis (Don) Pedersen of Grandview and Denise (David) Barthel of Yakima; two granddaughters, Kathryn and Sarah Pedersen, both of Kennewick; sisters-in-law, Laura Pedersen, Sammie Pedersen, Doris Bronkhorst, Dot Vertrees and Tessie Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; his parents, Peder and Dorothy Pedersen; brothers, Harold, Phil, Don and Willis Pedersen; brothers-in-law, Delbert Bronkhorst, Wallace Bronkhorst and Frank Bronkhorst; and sister-in-law, Chris Pedersen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Calvary Lutheran Church or Lower Valley Hospice.

At Mr. Pedersen's request there will be no public memorial services. His many friends are asked to remember him in their own way.
