A Sunnyside Goodwill donor may have accidentally given up a large sum of money, or perhaps it was an anonymous donation of large proportions.
Last week Sunnyside Goodwill store manager Chella Cardenas found a large sum of cash among the store's donations. The discovery was made while Cardenas was sorting through the store's donations and looked inside a shoebox. She immediately reported finding more than $10,000 in cold, hard cash to Goodwill executives, and now the team is actively looking for the owner of the funds.
Since this past week of holiday festivities, Cardenas says the Sunnyside location has received a number of calls claiming to be the rightful owner of the cash.
However, due to protocol, those wanting to claim the cash have been instructed to call Goodwill Industries of the Columbia's central office in the Tri-Cities at (509) 735-7238.
Central office staff confirmed that a number of folks have called to claim the cash and the executives are in the process of gathering information. Goodwill staff says more news should be available by Wednesday of next week.
