CONNELL - The Mabton Lady Viking wrestling squad had four athletes at the Sub-regional tourney at Connell this past Saturday...and all four won titles.
The combined effort netted the Lady Vikings 93 team points for second-place honors behind Sunnyside's 153 points.
The Mabton girls started their individual title run at 106 lbs., when Marlen Chavez earned top honors with a first-round injury default win in the title match over Richland's Tamika Pierce.
Mary Gutierrez of Mabton (112 lbs.) then followed with a convincing 11-4 win over Ki-Be's Jessica Rolland in the title match of that weight class.
The Lady Vikes made it three-for-three when Jazmin Mendoza defeated Sunnyside's Yunuenn Garcia in the 118-lb. weight class championship by a score of 7-4.
Mabton's Jesenia Meza wrapped up the sweep with a 9-6 win in the 124-lb. title match over Burbank's Marriah Paxton. Meza trailed 6-3 at one point before rallying for the championship.
Mabton Coach John Kilian said all four of the Lady Vikes were seeded first in their respective weight brackets.
"The girls have really pulled together as a team," he said. "They're all in consecutive weights...they're all good athletes but having good partners to practice with has been part of their key to success."
The Mabton girls now advance to Regional competition this coming Saturday at Wahluke High School in Mattawa.
The top three girls in each weight class at Regionals will advance to the State tourney.
