Concerns over city manager severance

My wife has a theory.

It appears that the word is out, both here and in Yakima, that the severance package is worth applying for the job of city manager, getting selected and then hanging around just long enough to qualify for the money before putting in your resignation letter. It makes me wonder if maybe the City Council should look into extending the time in the job before a resignation would be accepted.

There are some of the current Council, who used getting rid of Leo Fancey as part of their campaign, alleging he was bad for Sunnyside since he had been in the position forever.

Since his departure, we have gone through almost a half dozen 'replacements' for various reasons.

So what have we gained: One big box store, a dead down town and all the businesses moving out to the hi-way, which is now being billed as the "new" Sunnyside shopping district.

With the age of the buildings in the core either over 100 years or fast approaching 100, maybe it would be cheaper level the whole smear and make it into a 'new' Central Park.
