Lesley Matthews, 91, our beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday Feb. 19, 2012.

Lesley was born Feb. 28, 1920 in Leaday, Texas.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941. While serving his country he fought in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was awarded several medals, among which were two Bronze Stars and a Bronze Service Arrowhead. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.

He enjoyed being with people and would help anyone in need. He knew no strangers.

He loved playing cards and games with his family. He also enjoyed raising a bountiful garden, which he shared with friends and family. He was an avid reader of the Bible and attended Sunnyside Grace Brethren Church.

He is survived by four daughters, Ruby (Bud) Burrows, Kathryn (Pat) Zecchino, Jacquelyn (Allen) Zecchino and Renea Matthew; a sister, Kathryn (Harvey) Pfliger; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lona Matthews, two brothers and one sister.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Sunnyside Grace Brethren Church.
