Charles D. Kennedy, 73, of Sunnyside passed away on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012.

Charles was born Feb. 28, 1938 in Imperial, Neb. to Frank and Leta (Fosbinder) Kennedy.

Charles received his early education in Sunnyside, and earned his GED while serving in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1963. While serving our country, Charles was stationed in Korea and various locations on the East Coast.

On Dec. 16, 1966, he married Barbara J. Heberlein in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The couple made their home in Sunnyside, where Charles worked for the city of Sunnyside for more than 25 years from 1974 to 1992. He was the supervisor of the water treatment plant in Sunnyside.

Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing card games and also cherished time with both family and friends.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Kennedy of Sunnyside; his children, Stewart (Traci) Kennedy of Eugene, Ore. and Kim (John) Casch of Kennewick; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Elston (Nancy) Kennedy of Tacoma; and one sister, Doris Kennedy of Edmonds; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Leta Kennedy; and his stepmother, Gladys Kennedy.

At Charles' request no formal services will be held.
