GRANDVIEW - The Washington District Convention will be staged at Grandview's Country Park Events Center this coming July19-21.
Allen "Wally" Wallingford Tuesday detailed the planned three-day event for the Grandview City Council, stating the theme will be Carnival Under the Sun.
"I will be the bearded lady," he said.
Wallingford said there are approximately 300 Honda Gold Wing owners anticipated to be at the event.
Because Grandview doesn't have a large hotel to accommodate the visitors, arrangements have been made with the Grapevine Inn in Sunnyside.
Wallingford said the Grandview Police Department has been cooperative with his group and an agreement with the Yakima Valley Fair and Rodeo board has been inked.
He said there are plans underway to stage a motorcycle show at a local winery, and a nighttime light show at Country Park is planned.
"Some motorcycles have hundreds of lights...we will travel through town, honk our horns and act like juveniles," said Wallingford.
He said arrangements for a dinner are in the works and he has been in talks with the Army National Guard for use of the Armory.
"The community center isn't large enough to handle the number of people participating," Wallingford told the council.
He said the participants will also receive information about local eateries and things to do when they arrive, stating the organization likes to promote local business.
"There are several participants excited about the event," said Wallingford.
