BICKLETON - The Lady Pirates varsity had much to prove at last night's game against the Zillah C squad basketball team.
The visiting Leopards were scheduled for a game in December against Bickleton that they didn't get to play, due to injuries sustained early on the season for the Lady Pirates. Bickleton is back, with a triumphant victory over the Leopards last night, 43-22.
The first quarter started the Lady Pirates off with a three-point lead, 8-5.
"The girls took the lead early in the game and controlled the pace of the game the entire way through," Coach Emily Barnhart said.
Bickleton's Jamie Venema scored 16 points and pulled down 17 rebounds, and Lindsay Brown brought down 15 rebounds and scored 13 points, earning them each their third double-doubles on the season.
In the second quarter Bickleton increased its lead, leaving the Leopards trailing 23-11 at the half.
The Lady Pirates remained in control of the game, not allowing the Leopards to score at all in the third quarter, leaving the scoreboard looking grim for the Zillah team, 37-11.
The Leopards made an effort to regain points, scoring 11 in the fourth quarter. But it wasn't enough to catch the Lady Pirates, who won the game, 43-22.
The Lady Pirates (0-2, 2-2) next compete at Klickitat this Friday, Jan. 13.
