SIOUX CENTER, IOWA - Trevor Wagenaar, a senior at Sunnyside Christian High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa and join the Defender basketball program.

Wagenaar, a 6-2 guard, is averaging 23.1 points per game for Sunnyside Christian after helping the Knights to back-to-back State titles in 2010 and 2011. He averaged 15.8 points and 5.1 rebounds as a junior and 10.8 points per game as a sophomore as his team compiled a 48-5 mark those two seasons.

Wagenaar was an all-state first-team pick in 2011 and a second team selection in 2010. He has claimed all-league honors in each of his three seasons so far with Sunnyside Christian, which has won the Greater Columbia 1B League title the past three seasons.

"Trevor has had an outstanding career at Sunnyside Christian and we are excited to add him to our program," said Dordt College Coach Ross Douma. "He has a strong frame that will allow him to adjust quickly to the college game."

Duoma added, "Trevor is a tireless worker who has made himself into an excellent player. In addition, having played on highly regarded teams in high school coached by his father; Trevor knows what it takes to excel."

Wagenaar is the son of Dean and Glenda Wagenaar of Sunnyside. He plans to study agriculture-business at Dordt College, which is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
