ZILLAH - The Lady Vikings weren't at their best last night as they took on the Zillah Leopards and lost 55-34.
"This was by far the worst game one of my teams has played in four years as the head coach," said Coach Chris McCallum. "We came out flat, no intensity. We didn't even go through the motions."
Mabton was outscored 19-7 in the first quarter and had to play catch-up for the remainder of the non-league game. They weren't helped by 49 team turnovers.
"We are fortunate we only got beat by 21," said McCallum.
Jazzee Sustaita led the Lady Vikes in scoring with 12 points and seven rebounds. Cassidy McCallum had 11 points and five boards.
The Leopards out-rebounded Mabton 46 to 30. The Lady Vikings committed 21 fouls, sending Zillah to the charity stripe 33 times.
"It was just an all around bad night," said Coach McCallum. "We didn't do anything right and have lots to learn from a game like this. We have to go back to practice tomorrow and get after it."
Mabton is now 4-8 on the season overall and 2-2 in league games. The team's next two games are league contests. Friday, Jan. 13, they face Connell and Saturday, Jan. 14, they play Wahluke, both at home.
"We need to pick our intensity up and bring more effort," said McCallum. "We will learn from this loss and get better because of it."
